Along with Southern Right Whales, Gansbaai is also home to a large number of Great White Sharks. Because of the amazingly rich sea life and the vast colonies of Cape Fur Seals, Gansbaai provides the perfect living anf feeding environment for these beautiful and largely misunderstood creatures.

A specific channel between Geyser Rock and Dyer Island, also a well known bird sanctuary, provides the prefect feeding grounds for the Great Whites and has been aptly named “Shark Alley”.

For the daring, Gansbaai offers some fo the best shark cage diving in the world, allowing visitors to view these amazing creatures in their natural habitat, and for the not so brave there are also excellent boat and land tours that offer viewing of the Marine big 5.
